NEKCAN Grant Distribution Policy

NEKCAN distributes funds in the form of monthly grants to Cancer patients currently in treatment at a Cancer treatment facility and a resident of the following Vermont counties: Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans (referred to as the Northeast Kingdom)

All eligible potential recipients (or the individual who completed the application on the potential recipient’s behalf) will be contacted directly by a NEKCAN board member or their designee to verify that the grant application requirements have been met. Applicants will be asked to provide the potential recipient’s full name, mailing address, email address, telephone number, date of cancer diagnosis, current treatment facility and expected length of current treatment.  The NEKCAN board reserves the right to update grant requirements from time to time.

Eligible grant applications are reviewed on a monthly basis.  Grant award amounts are limited to what the NEKCAN board determines is the potential grant for any recipient in a given month, as funds allow.  Grants are paid monthly by check mailed to the recipient at the address on record at NEKCAN. 

Recipients are eligible to receive monthly payments for up to 6 months, as determined by the NEKCAN board or a committee thereof in its sole discretion. If a recipient’s treatment continues for longer than 6 months, the recipient may apply for additional grant funds, provided, however, that new applications will be considered prior to reapplicants.
